The Tuscarawas County Dog Pound is reminding residents to report stray dogs after a month-long search for a missing dog named Milo ended with his safe return to his owner. The pound shared the story on Facebook, emphasizing the importance of following legal guidelines and doing the right thing when finding lost animals.
Milo, a small dog, went missing a month ago from Tappan Lake Park in Harrison County. A young couple found him and took him to their home in Strasburg but failed to report the discovery to either the Tuscarawas County or Harrison County pounds.
The couple later called the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound to surrender Milo, stating they were no longer able to care for him. Upon learning the details of how Milo was found, the dog pound staff immediately reached out to the Harrison County Dog Pound, which had a missing dog report matching Milo’s description from the time he was found.
“[Milo’s] owner was contacted and described every spot on that dog,” the dog pound’s post said. “And when the warden called Milo by his name, he got so excited.” Milo was reunited with his rightful owner shortly after.
While this case had a happy ending, the pound warned that many others do not, urging the public to promptly report found pets. “Milo and his owner did not deserve all this,” the pound added. They also encouraged pet owners to keep dog licenses on their pets to help ensure quicker reunions in the future.
Reporting a found dog is not just a legal requirement but a crucial step in ensuring pets like Milo are returned to their families as soon as possible.
