Authorities in Tuscarawas and Coshocton counties, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, responded to a series of crimes Thursday involving a Dover man accused of stealing two vehicles and breaking into a home.
The incident began in Coshocton County, where the 31-year-old suspect allegedly stole a side-by-side vehicle, according to Detective Capt. Adam Fisher of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office. The man reportedly drove the vehicle into Tuscarawas County, crashing through several fences along Stonecreek Road near Newcomerstown.
The suspect was later spotted in the area of Starkey Drive, Fisher said. He noted that the man, who has documented mental health issues, appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis during the events.
The suspect then broke into a nearby residence, where he is accused of eating food from the refrigerator and stealing clothing before fleeing in the homeowner’s vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was found disabled on U.S. Route 36 in Coshocton County by a Coshocton County sheriff’s deputy. Fisher stated it is unclear how the vehicle became inoperable but confirmed the suspect had sustained a head laceration and was bleeding when located.
The man was taken into custody and transported to Genesis Coshocton Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Authorities anticipate he will be transferred to the Coshocton County Jail upon release from the hospital and will face multiple felony charges.
