Firefighters responded to two small fires at the vacant former Molly Stark Hospital on Tuesday night, marking the second fire incident at the property this summer, according to Nimishillen Twp. Fire Chief Adam Gladysz.
The fires broke out at the abandoned tuberculosis hospital, located at 7900 Columbus Road NE, which has been vacant since the mid-1990s. The Stark County Park District, which owns the site, alerted the local fire department. Crews were dispatched to the scene at 10:53 p.m., where they were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
Firefighters from the Louisville Fire Department received mutual aid from Marlboro Township, Plain Township, and Hartville fire departments, as well as assistance from the Stark County Park Rangers.
While the cause of the fires is still under investigation, officials noted similarities to a previous fire that occurred at the site earlier this summer.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
