The Canton Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 1425 Struble Ave. NE on Tuesday evening. At approximately 6:38 p.m., firefighters were dispatched after receiving reports of an air conditioner fire.
According to officials, smoke detectors alerted the occupants, two adults and five children, to a fire on the second floor. All residents evacuated the home safely before emergency crews arrived. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire on the exterior of the house and heavy smoke inside the second-floor bedrooms. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze.
A neighbor who assisted the family during the evacuation sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. One firefighter also suffered a minor injury but remained on duty.
The Red Cross has been called to assist the displaced family.
