A juvenile suspect has been arrested in connection with threats made against the Buckeye Local School District and specific students, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).
The investigation began on the morning of September 9, when the Sheriff’s Office first became aware of the threats. In response, an immediate investigation was launched, and additional deputies were deployed. All schools in the district were placed on a modified lockdown as a precautionary measure.
On the evening of September 10, further threats were reported, this time naming individual students. JCSO investigators gathered evidence leading to the identification and arrest of a single individual. During an interview, the juvenile suspect confessed to being responsible for both sets of threats. Multiple electronic devices were seized, including one believed to have been used to send the threats.
The suspect has been charged with an initial offense of Inducing Panic and is currently held at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center. The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office will review all evidence and determine any additional charges, with complaints to be filed with the Jefferson County Juvenile Court.
Despite the arrest and confession, the investigation remains active, and the Sheriff’s Office is thoroughly examining all threats and information gathered.
The JCSO expressed gratitude to several agencies for their assistance in the investigation, including the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, the Buckeye Local School District, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and local police departments, among others.
The investigation into the threats is ongoing.
