A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after being run over by a skid steer construction vehicle in a farming accident on Tuesday morning in Tuscarawas County.

The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. in the driveway of the family’s home on Cement Bridge Road NW, near Dundee. The child had been riding in the bucket of the vehicle with his twin brother while their mother operated it, according to Detective Capt. Adam Fisher of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary investigations suggest the boy fell from the bucket without his mother realizing it, Fisher said. She discovered the accident when she stopped the vehicle and found the child trapped on the ground between the bucket and the vehicle’s track. The boy’s twin brother remained in the bucket and was unharmed.

The injured child was flown by LifeFlight to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. However, Fisher said doctors are optimistic the boy will recover from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
