A local man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing another man in a hit-and-run incident driven by jealousy, according to prosecutors.

Matthew Colopy, 46, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other related charges in the death of 41-year-old Cateno Demetro. Chief criminal prosecutor Dennis Barr, with the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office, said the two men were romantically involved with the same woman, leading to the fatal confrontation.

Barr said Colopy followed Demetro to his home on 48th Street NW, near Cleveland Avenue, in October of last year. When Demetro exited his vehicle, Colopy struck him with his car, killing him.

Colopy had initially been charged with murder but accepted a plea deal, resulting in the reduced charges.
