CenCom, the dispatch center serving multiple communities in Stark County, will close its operations following a decision made by the Board of Trustees. Discussions have already begun with the City of Alliance to explore the potential for a strategic merger.

“After careful consideration and extensive discussion, the Board of Trustees and I have decided to close our dispatch center,” said Fire Chief Adam J. Gladysz in a statement. “Our primary goal is streamlining operations, enhancing safety, and ensuring the longevity of 911 services in response to the growing demands of technological advancements and innovation.”

CenCom employs nine dispatchers and serves 11 communities, including East Sparta, Hartville, Louisville, Nimishillen Township, North Lawrence, Osnaburg Township and Perry Township. Tri-Division EMS and the Uniontown police and fire departments also contract with CenCom.

According to Gladysz, the decision to consolidate resources is expected to improve operations for both agencies and first responders, with a focus on enhancing the safety and well-being of residents.

“We are confident that this proposed collaboration will lead to more efficient operations and improved outcomes for all,” said Gladysz. “While we understand that this change may bring concerns and uncertainties, our commitment to our employees, agencies, and the community remains unwavering.”

CenCom will work to support those affected by the transition and ensure the continuity of essential services during the merger process.
