Minerva 19-year-old killed in motorcycle crash after striking tree

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred late Thursday night, August 29. The incident took place around 11:36 p.m. on State Route 183 near milepost 13 in Washington Township, Stark County.

Jed M. Unruh, 19, of Minerva, was riding a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve, leading him to travel off the right side of the roadway. Unruh lost control of the motorcycle and struck a tree before coming to a stop.

Despite wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Unruh was transported by Washington Township EMS to Aultman Hospital, where he died fromhis injuries.

Authorities have stated that alcohol and drug use are not believed to be factors in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Washington Township Fire and EMS, along with Mel’s Towing, assisted the highway patrol at the scene. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
