Details: 911 call sheds light on fatal shooting of Paris Twp. woman

Authorities continue to investigate a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 37-year-old woman in Paris Township late Sunday night.

According to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 16000 block of Coldale Street NE at approximately 10:29 p.m. on August 25, 2024, after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival, they discovered Ashley Rose Shumaker, a local resident, deceased from an apparent single gunshot wound.

The 911 call was made by a man who described himself as the victim’s fiancé. “My fiancé, she has bipolar,” the caller said in a frantic tone. “She came at me with a knife and I shot her… I’m panicking.” Authorities have not released the name of the man, as he has not been charged in connection with the fatal shooting. The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide.

Major Ryan Carver of the Stark County Sheriff’s Office told Jordan Miller News (JMN) that they believe the incident is isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
