The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal dirtbike crash that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Canton man on August 18.

Dakota S. Stach was riding a blue 2006 Yamaha YZ250 Dirtbike northbound on Marietta Avenue Southeast when he veered off the right side of the road around 10:03 p.m. Sunday night. The bike struck a mailbox and a utility pole, resulting in Stach being ejected and landing in a nearby yard. Witnesses reported that the dirtbike was traveling at a high rate of speed before the incident occurred.

Emergency medical services transported Stach to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Officials confirmed that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Canton Township Fire and EMS, along with Tracer’s Towing, assisted at the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
