Authorities are investigating an alleged attempted robbery that occurred late Saturday night in New Philadelphia, according to a report from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.
The report says the incident took place around midnight when a resident noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at the bottom of his driveway on Baker Rd SW. After waiting approximately ten minutes, the resident approached the vehicle to investigate. An unknown male exited the car and reportedly brandished a firearm, demanding the resident’s property.
In a struggle, the victim was able to push the assailant before a single shot was fired, the report says. No injuries were reported. Responding deputies located a shell casing at the scene, which was collected as evidence. Investigators also obtained a written statement from the victim and documented the scene with photographs.
The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
