Ohio’s highly anticipated recreational marijuana sales will commence on Tuesday as the state issues its first operating certificates. This marks a significant moment for residents and businesses alike.
All four dispensaries in Canton are prepared to launch sales once they receive final approval from state regulators. The Botanist, located at 3840 Greentree Ave. SW, and Zen Leaf at 3224 Cleveland Ave. NW, will open their doors at 9 a.m. Ohio Cannabis Co. at 4016 Greentree Ave. SW and The Citizen by Klutch at 401 Cherry Ave. NE will start sales an hour later at 10 a.m., according to company representatives.
Under the new law, adults aged 21 and over will be allowed to purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of cannabis. Additionally, individuals may grow up to six plants at home, with a maximum of 12 plants per household.
The legalization of marijuana for adults was approved by Ohio voters last November. Purchases will be subject to a 10% tax, with the revenue allocated to cover administrative costs, addiction treatment, municipalities hosting dispensaries, and initiatives promoting social equity and job creation within the cannabis industry.
