A North Canton man was arrested early Thursday after a vehicle was damaged by a bullet, according to North Canton Police.
At approximately 1:57 a.m., the North Canton Police Department responded to a report of damage to a vehicle in the 400 block of W. Maple St. The victim told officers he was driving in the area when he heard a “loud pop or bang,” and his front passenger window shattered. Upon inspection, the driver discovered a bullet hole in the front passenger door just below the window. Fortunately, the victim was uninjured.
Officers confirmed the location of the incident with the victim and conducted a foot search of the area, but nothing was found during the midnight search.
Detectives were notified and, through their investigation, identified the suspect as Peter M. Haritas, 67, of North Canton. Haritas later confessed to the crime and was subsequently arrested. He was booked into the Stark County Jail on the following charges:
- One count of felonious assault (F2)
- One count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises (F3)
- One count of vandalism (F5)
The investigation is ongoing.
