On July 4th, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Tuscarawas County deputies were forced to shoot a 41-year-old male suspect in Wainwright.
The incident unfolded after the county’s 911 center received a call reporting an intoxicated male firing a gun in the 1900 block of Wainwright Road. The caller, a neighbor, witnessed the suspect shooting in the direction of his own home where his wife and children were present.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found the suspect in his garage with a gun in hand. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, the man pointed the gun at the deputies, prompting two officers to open fire. The suspect was struck in the arm and leg.
Following the shooting, deputies secured the weapon and provided immediate first aid, including applying a tourniquet and bandaging the suspect’s wounds. Emergency medical services were requested, and the suspect was transported to Aultman Hospital. His injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, and he is currently in stable condition.
No deputies or members of the suspect’s family were harmed during the confrontation. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.
The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed.
JMN will provide updates as soon as they are available.
