A 7-year-old child is dead following a shooting early Friday at a Stark County motel. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident, which occurred at the Knights Inn on 3950 Convenience Circle NW in Plain Township.
Deputies were dispatched to the hotel around 1:00 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a juvenile victim with gunshot wounds and administered immediate first aid. The Plain Township Fire Department arrived shortly after and transported the child to a nearby hospital, where the child succumbed to their injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified William Brent Dolch, 37, as a suspect in the shooting. A warrant has been issued for Dolch on charges of weapons under disability. His last known address is Akron. He has not been arrested at this time. Dolch is the father of the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to officials, two adults and three children were in the hotel room at the time of the shooting. The adult who called 911 was a female. The other two children were unharmed.
The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that this incident does not involve a child finding a gun, emphasizing that it is an isolated event.
