The Canton Township Fire Department responded to Meyers Lake on Friday afternoon following reports of a possible swimmer in distress. The dispatch call came in at 2:51 p.m., and the first crews arrived on the scene within four minutes, deploying a rescue boat docked at the marina.
In a coordinated effort, the Plain Township Fire Department provided mutual aid, contributing an additional boat to the search operation. Initial sweeps of the area yielded no results, prompting a request for assistance from the South Summit Dive Team at 3:09 p.m. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office also responded, deploying drones to assist in the search.
The South Summit Dive Team arrived on the water at 4:48 p.m., utilizing two sonar-equipped boats to scan the area. Despite thorough efforts, the search concluded at 6:32 p.m. with no findings.
“Fortunately, nothing or no one was found during this search,” the Canton Township Fire Department Chief Chris Smith said. The searched was then called off Thursday evening, and all crews were released from the scene.
