Two individuals were arrested following a rear-end collision involving a Stark County Sheriff’s Office cruiser early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 7:07 a.m., a 2023 Dodge Durango cruiser was stopped at a traffic light on Middlebranch Avenue at the intersection of Schneider Street Northeast. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the cruiser was rear-ended by a 2017 Ford Focus driven by Nickolas Hamilton, 30, of Louisville. Hamilton fled the scene on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Hamilton faces multiple charges, including Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated, Assured Clear Distance, Driving Under Suspension, Failure to Stop After an Accident, and Possession of Drug Abuse Instruments. He was also found to have multiple outstanding warrants.
The passenger in the vehicle, Robert Pinkerton, 55, of Canton, was also arrested. Pinkerton, who had several outstanding warrants, was charged with Obstruction of Justice.
“Thankfully, injuries sustained were not life-threatening. I am proud of our team’s swift response in managing the situation effectively,” said Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier. “We remain committed to upholding the safety of our roadways, and this case serves as a crucial example of why our work is so important.”
The Stark County Deputy and both suspects were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects have since been booked into the Stark County Jail.
