The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s New Philadelphia Post is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Friday, June 7, at approximately 3:56 p.m. on County Road 3 (Salt Fork Road), just south of State Route 258 in Washington Township in Tuscarawas County.

Lela K. Dale, 65, of Kimbolton, Ohio, was driving a white 2015 Polaris RZR northbound on County Road 3. Investigators say Dale attempted to make a left turn into a private drive at Sally’s Hilltop. A 51-year-old man from Coschocton was driving a red 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southbound on County Road 3. The Polaris RZR failed to yield while turning left into the private drive and was struck by the Chevrolet Silverado, according to troopers.

Dale sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported by Tri-County EMS to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash. He was evaluated by Tri-County EMS at the scene and released.

Dale was not wearing a safety belt or helmet at the time of the crash, troopers say.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Tri-County EMS, the Newcomerstown Fire Department, the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office, Chad’s Towing, and Prince’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
