A 25-year-old man from Canton died Monday night following a crash involving the motorcycle he was operating and a pickup truck, according to the Canton Police Department.
On the evening of June 3, the Canton Police Department was called to the scene of a collision involving a pick-up truck and a motorcycle at the intersection of 12th St NW and Homedale Ave NW.
When officers arrived, they located a 2007 Honda CRB motorcycle. It was determined the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on 12th St NW when it went left of center to pass several vehicles. Upon reentering the eastbound lane, the motorcycle collided with the rear of a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado that was in the process of turning north onto Homedale Ave NW.
The impact caused the motorcyclist, identified as John P. Zirhut, a 25-year-old resident of Canton, to be thrown from the motorcycle. Zirhut was taken to a local hospital where he later passed away due to his injuries. The driver of the Silverado and their passenger emerged from the incident unharmed.
The Canton Metro Crash Team has taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident, including whether substances like drugs or alcohol played a role for the motorcyclist.
