The Ohio State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia Post is currently conducting an investigation into a incident involving a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the loss of one life.

The incident occurred on County Road 88, also known as Tall Timber Rd NE, in Fairfield Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

According to authorities, on Sunday, December 3, at approximately 5:45 p.m., a 2010 Ford Escape was being driven northbound on County Road 88 by Richard D. Deardorff, a 66-year-old resident of Mineral City. For reasons yet to be determined, Deardorff veered left of the center and veered off the roadway. The vehicle collided with both a culvert and a utility pole.

Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene, and Mr. Deardorff was swiftly transported to Aultman Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical staff, he was later pronounced deceased. Terri S. Deardorff, a 62-year-old passenger also from Mineral City, sustained injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening. She was transported to Aultman Hospital to receive the necessary medical care.

Multiple local agencies provided their assistance during this incident. The Ohio State Patrol received support from the Mineral Sandy Fire Department, Fairfield Township Fire Department, Regional EMS, and Finlayson’s Towing.

As of now, the investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Further details surrounding the circumstances leading to the accident have yet to be released.
