Police: Man arrested for intentionally hitting, killing pedestrian with car in Canton

In a shocking incident that unfolded on Monday, October 9th at approximately 7:55 A.M., tragedy struck the 1900 block of 48th St. NW in Canton when a deliberate act of violence claimed the life of a man, according to Canton Police.

According to Chief Gabbard of the Canton Police Department, officers were urgently dispatched to the scene following reports of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. Preliminary information suggests that the vehicle involved had fled the scene. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the Cateno J. Demetro, 41, of Canton, in the roadway. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital where he died.

Law enforcement officials say that this incident was no accident; it was a deliberate act of violence. The case has been officially classified as a homicide, and investigators are actively working to piece together the events leading up to the fatal incident.

The suspect involved in the incident was apprehended a short time later and identified as Matthew Patrick Colopy, 45, of Canton. He been charged with Murder, Felonious Assault and Tampering with Evidence.
