An 11-year-old boy suffered minor injuries Monday evening after falling victim to a hit-skip accident at 12th St and Wertz Ave NW, according to Canton police.

The 11-year-old boy from Canton was walking across Wertz Ave NW in the marked crosswalk when a 2016 Kia was heading west on 12th St NW. The Kia then turned left on Wertz Ave NW and struck the boy before fleeing the scene.

The child was transported to Aultman Hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as William C. Huth, 34, of 10th St NW in Canton. He’s facing charges of Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and Right of Way in Crosswalk – both misdemeanors.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 19 at 9 a.m.
