The driver responsible for a tragic two-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of an 85-year-old woman has been apprehended and now faces multiple charges. Undray Benefield, a 34-year-old resident of Alliance, was arrested on July 5th in connection with the incident in June. Benefield has been charged with Aggravated Vehicular Homicide (F-2), Operating a Vehicle under the Influence (OVI) while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as indicated by blood and urine tests (M-1), and Speeding.
According to authorities from the Alliance Police Department, the fatal crash unfolded at around 10 pm back in June at the intersection of East State Street and South Senaca Avenue.
The victim has been identified as Virginia Graham, an 85-year-old resident of Beloit. Graham was traveling eastbound on East State Street when another vehicle, driven by Benefield, ran a red light while heading south on Senaca Avenue. The impact of the collision caused Graham’s vehicle to sustain severe damage.
Benefield is scheduled to appeared in Alliance Municipal Court on July 7.
