Dellroy man dies after hitting deer while riding motorcycle in Carroll County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s New Philadelphia Post is currently investigating a fatal accident that took place on State Route 171 in Harrison Township, Carroll County.

The crash occurred on the evening of July 4 at at 11:04 pm.

Troopers say Jeffery L. Ayers, a 60-year-old resident of Dellroy, was operating a 1996 Harley Davidson Sportster XL 883, heading eastbound on State Route 171. Ayers collided with a deer that had wandered onto the roadway. As a result of the crash, Ayers sustained fatal injuries.

Multiple emergency response agencies were quick to assist at the scene, including the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Mohawk Valley Joint District Fire Department, EMT Ambulance, Carroll County Coroner’s Office, and Deluxe Towing.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is actively conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details will be shared as they become available.
