An early morning fire left an Alliance woman dead Thursday morning, according to officials.
Carolyn Johnson, 79, died after a home in the 400 block of N. Oak Ave went up in flames. Johnson was trapped inside the home and likely inhaled a large amount of smoke. She was pronounced dead at Aultman Alliance Hospital around 2:30 a.m.
Officials say the woman’s daughter and granddaughter made it out of the house safely, escaping to the roof and were later rescued by firefighters.
Johnson was located inside the home near the locked front door.
According to the Alliance Professional Firefighters Local 480 who posted an update about the fire on Facebook, Johnson was removed from the house and CPR was quickly administered. She was transported to the hospital where she died.
