A 41-year-old man from Canton is dead following a shooting involving Canton Police.

According to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard, officers were dispatched to 311 25th St SW for reports of a disturbance. When officers arrived to the scene, which was on a side street off Cleveland Ave SW, police were shot at and then returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect, who was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital and died, has been identified as Jeffrey Neff, 41, of 25th St SW, Canton.

An officer was grazed by a bullet fired by the suspect, but did not suffer an injury, according to police.

The crime scene consisted of a portion of 25th St SW, through a backyard and onto a 77N exit ramp.

It’s unclear what the initial disturbance call was that led police to the scene.

BCI is leading the investigation into the shooting between the suspect and police department.
