Strasburg Tigers softball defends title; win 9th state championship

In an exhilarating finale, the Strasburg Tigers secured their ninth state softball championship in program history by defeating Hopewell-Loudon 8-2 at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

Amelia Spidell, a junior for the Tigers, set a new Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament record by striking out an impressive 18 batters.

Maggie Richards, a senior, kicked off the scoring with a three-run home run, paving the way for the Tigers to claim their second consecutive Division IV state title.

With a fantastic record of 30-2, the Tigers ended their season on a high note, while Hopewell-Loudon finished with a 31-1 record.

This was the 18th time that Strasburg had made it to the final four, cementing their status as one of the most dominant programs in the state.
