Local athletes from Stark, Carroll, Tusc heading to state tournament

The regional track meet held at Muskingum University in New Concord showcased the incredible talents of athletes from various schools.

The top four finishers in each event secured their spots in the state track meet in Columbus.

In the Girls 1600 Meter Run, Minerva’s Kayla Crissman demonstrated her exceptional skills, finishing in third place with a time of 5:12.46. Her teammate, Katie Ison, also had an impressive performance, securing the fifth spot with a time of 5:23.03. The event was won by Cameron Walker from Unioto, who finished with a time of 5:04.80.

Moving on to the Boys 1600 Meter Run, Rowen Hoffee of Minerva secured a fourth-place finish, crossing the finish line in 4:27.65. Xander Heil from Indian Valley claimed the top spot with a time of 4:19.98.

The Boys 4×100 Meter Relay witnessed a thrilling competition among the participating schools. Indian Valley’s team, consisting of Kolton Thomas, Grady Kinsey, Benaiah Klaserner, and Gavin Henry, secured a second-place finish with a time of 43.28. Carrollton’s team claimed the sixth spot with a time of 43.56. The South Point team clinched the victory with a time of 43.03.

In the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles, Garrett Ault from Minerva performed well, earning a fourth-place finish with a time of 40.25. Micah Mitchell from Steubenville emerged as the event champion, completing the race in 38.67.

The Girls 3200 Meter Run witnessed a new school record set by Hera Hoffee from Minerva. Her impressive time of 11:08.70 earned her a second-place finish in the event. Sophia Szolosi from Athens claimed the top spot with a time of 11:00.63. Minerva’s Hannah Ison punched her ticket to the state meet with a fourth-place finishing, crossing the finish line in 11:58.

Cleo Mueller from Minerva showcased her talents in the Girls Long Jump, securing a second-place finish with a jump of 17-02. Anna Stutes from Philo finished just behind Cleo in third place, recording a jump of 17-01. Sabria Jones from Steubenville claimed the victory in this event with a jump of 17-03.50.

Claymont’s Alec Terakedis emerged as the 200-meter champion, finishing with a time of 22.09 and a wind reading of 3.8. Joey Bloebaum from South Point secured a close second place, crossing the finish line just behind Terakedis with a time of 22.12. Nathan Baker from Carrollton, earned a third-place finish with a time of 22.16. Peyton Caudill from Minford also put up a strong performance, securing the fourth spot with a time of 22.17. These athletes displayed their exceptional speed and determination in this highly competitive event.

Jason Morris, representing Sandy Valley, showed his talent in the high jump event, clearing a height of 6-03.00 to secure a second-place finish and the chance to compete at the state track meet.

The Minerva girls had a strong showing overall, finishing the meet in second place with a total of 45 points. John Glenn emerged as the winner with a total of 66.5 points.
