A fatal traffic crash that occurred on Monday morning in Marlboro Township (Stark County) is being investigated by the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident happened at around 4:58 AM on State Street west of State Route 44.

According to the preliminary investigation, Zachary V. Gottscheck, 20, of Alliance, was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler heading eastbound on State Street. At the same time, Joseph L. Kellogg, 43, also from Alliance, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, heading westbound. One of the vehicles traveled left of center and the two vehicles collided head-on. The Malibu then crashed into a fence after running off the north side of the road.

Following the initial impact, Theodore S. Gazdak, 48, from Alliance, driving a 1997 Honda Civic, hit the Jeep Wrangler. The Honda Civic then went off the north side of the roadway, while the Jeep Wrangler came to rest in the eastbound lane of State Street, facing west.

Gottscheck sustained minor injuries during the crash and was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for treatment by Marlboro Township EMS.

Gazdak also suffered minor injuries, was treated at the scene by Nimishillen Township EMS, and was released without being transported.

Unfortunately, Joseph L. Kellogg died at the scene due to the injuries he sustained in the accident.

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from the Marlboro Township Police Department, Marlboro Township Fire Department, Nimishillen Township Fire Department, and Canton Towing in the aftermath of the crash.

As of now, the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident. No further details have been released at this time.
