A wanted 31-year-old Canton man was taken into custody by the police following a standoff at a house on Smith Avenue SW on Friday night in Canton.

According to Canton Police Lt. Dennis Garren, the authorities were responding to a call at around 8:30 p.m. when they found the man who had multiple outstanding warrants. The suspect refused to come out of the house and fled back inside, prompting the SWAT team’s involvement.

After searching the property, the suspect was discovered hiding in a crawl space. He ultimately surrendered to the police after they deployed a K9 unit. In addition to the outstanding warrants, the man is now facing new charges.

A woman who was present at the scene also had an outstanding warrant and was apprehended. No further information has been released at this time. The Canton police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
