Akron Police officers responded to the intersection of Hart Street and Factory Street just before 7 p.m. Monday evening for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived to the scene, they found a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest. Shortly after arriving, they received another call of a shooting nearby and found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his leg at Duane Avenue and Lucy Street.

Officers quickly administered emergency first aid, including a chest seal and a tourniquet, to both subjects before transporting them to Summa Health Akron City Hospital. Thankfully, their injuries were non-life-threatening.

During a scene search, officers recovered two handguns and found shell casings in the intersection of Duane and Lucy. They also discovered that a house in the 1100 block of Duane was struck.

Based on preliminary findings, it appears that both subjects exchanged gunfire with each other during an altercation. The detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and trying to determine what roles the subjects played.

The Akron Police Department encourages anyone with information about the incident to call the Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip. The investigation is still ongoing.
