A storage barn on the historic A.D. Fasnacht Farm Park was destroyed by a fire on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the scene before 1 p.m. and remained on the property near 12th Street and Jackson Avenue NW for almost three hours.

According to Perry Fire Chief Larry Sedlock, the barn was primarily used for storage and has been deemed a total loss. The barn housed diesel-fueled tractors, which may have contributed to the fire’s intensity.

The township acquired the 30-plus acre property, which includes two barns, in 2007. Local farmers lease the land.

Investigators are still investigating the cause of the fire and are expected to return to the scene on Monday to continue their investigation.

Assistance was provided by firefighters from Massillon, North Lawrence, and Jackson Township.
