A man from Green is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly shooting and killing his dog, according to Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree.

Summit County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a home in Green on Tuesday around midnight for reports of an intoxicated man engaging in violent behavior.

Deputies learned Louis Shipka, 34, was making threatening statements that included shooting and killing his dog. He did kill the dog, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Shipka refused to exit his home. Shipka barricaded himself inside with a large amount of firearms.

The Summit County SWAT Team and hostage negotiators were dispatched to the residence. Shipka again refused to exit the residence when negotiators made contact with him.

A drone was then activated and could see Shipka in the basement of his home. Deputies were able to enter the home and took him into custody after an encounter.

Shipka is facing Cruelty to Animals (F5), Weapons while Intoxicated (M1), Discharge of a Firearm in City Limits (M1), Obstructing Official Business (M2) and Resisting Arrest (M2). Shipka was transported to the Summit County Jail.
