CNN has parted ways with host Don Lemon who has been with the network for 17 years.
Lemon tweeted about the termination, saying he was “stunned” by the move.
“I am stunned,” Lemon wrote. “After 17 years at CNN I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
“Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years,” said CNN CEO Chris Licht in a statement. “We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”
Lemon has recently been under fire for remarks made about Republican Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley, saying the 51-year-old was no longer in her “prime.”
“Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry,” Lemon said. “When a woman is considered to be in her prime — in her 20s, 30s and maybe her 40s.”
Lemon had then agreed to partake in training following public backlash after making the comments.
In a report from Variety, more than a dozen former and current colleagues of Lemon’s said he was openly hostile to women at the network.
Lemon was most recently a co-host of CNN This Morning – a show that has been on air for the last six months.
