65-year-old arrested within 30 minutes of Canton Township bank robbery

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday afternoon after a bank robbery.

According to Sheriff George Maier, deputies were dispatched to the Key Bank in the 3000 block of Cleveland Ave SW in Canton Township for a bank robbery in progress around 12:15 p.m.

As the Sheriff’s office’s investigation unfolded, deputies identified 65-year-old Rickey Hampton as the robbery suspect. He was arrested at an apartment in the 700 block of Alan Page Dr. SE in Canton at 12:42 p.m.

“I want to commend the quick response and investigative skills of our Stark County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and 911 Dispatchers involved in bringing this case to a quick and safe resolution,” said Sheriff George T. Maier.

Hampton was booked into the Stark County Jail and is facing one count of Aggravated Robbery.
