Pedestrian hit, killed by semi on I-77

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Green Fire Department were dispatched to I-77 early Sunday morning for reports of a pedestrian vs. semi track trailer crash.

When crews arrived to the scene just before 3 a.m., they learned that a 49-year-old man from Springfield Township was struck by the semi truck on the interstate while walking in the roadway, according to a press release.

Officials said the accident happened on I-77 near mile marker 118.8 in Green.

The man walked into the southbound lanes of I-77 and was struck by the tractor trailer. He was transported to a local hospital where he died.

The name of the deceased has not been released at this time.

The driver of the truck didn’t sustain any injuries in the crash.

No charges has been filed. The crash remains under investigation.
