The Akron Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that happened Thursday night in the 700 block of W. Market St.
According to police, a 40-year-old male was on foot on the north side of W. Market St between two buildings. They said moments later the victim ran south into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle heading west on W. Market St.
The pedestrian was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he died. His name has not been released.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle has ben described as a dark-colored SUV.
Speed does not appear to be a factor of the crash.
