Akron police arrested a 24-year-old man they are calling a ‘serial rapist.’

Officials say Mohamed Reeda, of Akron, said the man was a driver for a rideshare service. It’s alleged Reeda would look for women who were walking alone in the city, or with one other female and lured them into his vehicle under false pretenses. It’s alleged that Reeda would then drive the women to isolated places where he would victimize them.

It’s alleged that the crimes took place in Nov. of 2022 through March of 2023. He’s facing multiple charges that include: three counts of rape, two counts of abduction, and one count of attempted rape.

“Removing this serial predator from our community has clearly made Akron a safer place. The victims in this case experienced trauma that most will not be able to understand, and nothing can be done to undo the harms this suspect caused; however, I hope this arrest is the first step leading to bringing the suspect to justice and assist the victims in their journey towards healing,” said Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett.

So far, eight victims of Reeda have been identified but detectives expect the ongoing investigation to lead to additional charges against Reeda.

Police believe he would’ve continued committing the sexual crimes had he not been arrested.

“We want to bring these criminal acts to the attention of the public because we believe there could be additional people that did not report being crime victims,” a press release stated.

If you had a similar contact with Reeda, whether you got into the vehicle or not, you’re asked contact the Akron Police Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490.
