The Minerva Lions (1-2) secured their first win of the season with a 9-3 victory over the United Eagles (1-1) Tuesday evening.

Minerva senior Isaiah Frazier earned the win from the mound for Minerva with nine strikeouts in seven innings. He only gave up three hits on the day.

Minerva scored the first run of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The bats of the Eagles got hot in the top of the second, scoring three straight runs to take a 3-1 lead.

“I thought our answer to their three-run second inning was huge and got momentum right back on our side,” Minerva Head Coach Troy Richeson said. “Isaiah Fraizer pitched great and only needed 80 pitches to pitch all seven innings.”

In the bottom of the second inning, Minerva trailed 3-1 but managed to get the bases loaded with two outs.

The Lions scored a run after United’s Parker Newburn threw four balls during an at-bat, walking in a run for the Lions and cutting the lead to 3-2. Minerva scored two more runs on a pair of passed balls/wild pitches, resulting in Jon Davis and Julian Dunbar scoring from third, putting the Lions up 4-3.

Minerva sealed the win with a five-run sixth inning.

Frank Common recorded two RBIs and two hits for Minerva. Logan Frigyes added two RBIs and Julian Dunbar performed well in the nine hole, going 2-3 at the plate.

The Lions recorded nine hits in the win.
