A 20-year-old is facing multiple charges in connection to the shooting death of a Canton earlier in the month.
On March 10, Steven Troyer, 55, of Canton was shot multiple times while sitting in the drivers seat of his car.
On March 25, detectives identified the suspect Damon A. Mitchell, 20, of Toledo, and obtained an arrest warrant.
According to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Greenfield Ave S.W. just off of Navarre Rd. for reports of a shooting at 10:44 a.m.. When they arrived to the scene, they located Troyer unresponsive in the drivers seat of his vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Troyer was transported to Aultman Hospital where he died.
Police said Mitchell has been incarcerated in Crawford County on unrelated charges for drugs and attempted to flee from the Ohio State Highway Patrol within the last two weeks. Mitchell is now facing charges of Murder with a firearm specification, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises and felonious assault.
