A family pet was killed in a structure fire Wednesday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched to 120 48th St SW in Canton Township at 12:42 p.m. for reports of a structure fire. Responding departments arrived on scene by 12:43 p.m.
The fire originated in the attached garage and spread into the home. An occupant of the residence was home when the fire began and called 911, according to Canton Township Fire Department spokesman Scott Johnson.
Johnson said a family dog died in the fire.
Cleveland Ave was closed for multiple hours as crews responded to the area – which did not have hydrants. Other agencies assisted by serving as water tenders using their tanker trucks.
In addition to Canton Township, crews from Perry Township, Osnaburg Township, Mohawk Valley and other local departments responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
