Those who love outdoor recreational power equipment will not have to travel far now to get new equipment or get their current equipment serviced.

Jim Kohmann, owner of Kohmann Minerva Mowers, has partnered with Daystar Auto to sell powersports equipment that includes ATV, side-by-sides, mini bikes,  powers and much more.

Kohmann and Matt Leeders, the owner of Daystar Auto, have known each other for nearly two decades.  The two had previously discussed expanding the powersports sector of Kohmann’s business.

“Matt approached me about partnering up in the power equipment section of my business and then adding to it with the power sports and whatnot,”  Kohmann noted. “Him and I talked a couple months and came to an agreement and a partnership. So here we are now, moving forward.”

Right now, Daystar Power Sports & Equipment currently has new Massimo branded equipment on the lot, but they are accepting trades on use power sport vehicles.

“We take trade ins on our equipment if there’s something here that they’re interested in,” Kohmann said. “We are willing to buy power sports equipment, I mean side by sides, four wheelers, things of that nature outright, to help  stock our used inventory.”

Kohmann noted that the expanded operation offers servicing for all types of power sports equipment.

“One of the biggest things is there’s just no one in the area to service the units,” he said. “People are using them hard sometimes, just having fun. They’re bound to break or need service, oil changes and things like that. In this area without going to Canton, Akron, Youngstown, something like that. You know, there’s no real dealer that they can bring it to and get service done.”

When asked why they decided to expand into power sports, the answer was simple.

“I think they need to have a local business to come to that can support them in this equipment, obviously over the last couple of years especially, power sports has taken off,” Kohmann said. “People are wanting to get outside and enjoy more.”

He said the power sports industry has seen a boom much in part because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The power sports industry has grown immensely in the last two years with Covid and everything,” Kohmann said.

The store is located at 310 Valley St, Minerva.
