COLUMBUS – For the first time ever, a state championship is coming to Bowerston.

Conotton Valley’s girls’ bowling team won the Division II state meet on Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl. The Lady Rockets bowled their way past St. Mary’s Memorial, Carrollton, and Sandusky Perkins to capture the program’s first state title.

Conotton finished Friday’s first three qualifying rounds in third place with a total score of 2690 (875-924-891), behind Wooster Triway (2826) and Carrollton (2694). However, after winning their quarterfinal match against St. Mary’s (186-164), as well as their semifinal against the Warriors (176-172), the Rockets beat Perkins by a 182-164 decision to capture the school’s first state championship.

Senior Daphne Stuber led the Rockets with a 626 tournament total (188-246-192), which was fourth among all individual bowlers. Junior Mackenzie Willoughby was 10th individually with a 587 (214-212-161), while freshman Delilah Williams rolled a 553 (166-186-201) for a 24th-place finish.

The Warriors placed third among the eight qualifying teams, winning their quarterfinal match against St. Paris Graham Local, 212-162, before falling to the Rockets. Senior Madi Bittaker rolled a team-best 568 (181-183-143; 17th overall), while junior Zoey Elliott (562, 173-164-225; 21st), seniors Joline Greaves (560, 224-151-185; 22nd) and Aubrey Taylor (503, 190-159-154; tied-47th), and junior Abby Natcher (501, 185-168-148; 49th).

Napoleon freshman Arianna Kiessling scored the top individual title with a 674 (238-231-205).

Conotton Valley will have a chance to secure a boys’ state championship, as the Rockets’ squad is set to compete in Saturday’s Division II state meet in Columbus.
