Residents spent much of Wednesday evening’s town hall in East Palestine asking why no assistance from the White House has been provided. But that may be changing now.

Governor Mike DeWine has been in contact with officials at the White House asking for federal help. As a result of the conversation, Gov. DeWine requested assistance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health and Emergency Response Team, and the CDC to provide on-the-ground assistance in East Palestine.

But what about assistance from FEMA?

DeWine’s team has been in daily contact with FEMA to look into federal support for East Palestine. FEMA tells Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time, but DeWine will continue to work with FEMA to determine what assistance, if any, can be provided.
