East Canton woman killed in three-vehicle crash on State Route 172

One person died as the result of a three-vehicle crash in the East Canton/Osnaburg Township area Monday afternoon on State Route 172 near milepost 21 at 3:50 p.m.

According to the Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, William Eyer V., 26 of Minerva, was heading eastbound in a 2019 Chevrolet Van on 172 when he was rear-ended by Scott Henning, 35, of Minerva who was also heading east on 172 in a Dodge Van.

According to the crash report, the Dodge Van came to a rest off the right side of the roadway and the Chevrolet Van was pushed left of center and collided head on with a Jeep Gladiator, operated by Denise Decker, 52, of East Canton heading west on 172.

The Jeep traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and rolled multiple times before coming to a final rest, according to OSHP. Decker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Stark County Coroner.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, Osnaburg Township Fire and EMS, Nimishillen Fire Department, Louisville EMS, Stark County Coroner’s Office, and Patriot’s Towing assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the crash scene.

No alcohol or drugs were factors in this crash. Mrs. Decker and Mr. Henning were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
