Barrino, Minor combine for 38 points as Malvern moves to 3-0

In front of a full gymnasium at Malvern High School, the Hornets moved to 3-0 on the early season with a 69-48 victory over visiting Buckeye Trail.

Buckeye Trail scored the first points of the game with a three-point shot. The Hornets responded with a 14-0 run to take control of the game.

Sophomore Mitchell Minor put on a strong performance in the first half, scoring 15 points. Minor hit three three-pointers in the first quarter and two more in the second quarter. He finished with 20 points in the game.

Sophomore Jared Witherow led the Hornets with seven rebounds.

Malvern led the Warriors 17-10 after one quarter of action and 35-16 at halftime.

The Hornets were on fire from behind the arc, making 11 triples. Minor made six three-pointers, Dylan Phillips and Drake Delong finished with two each and Rodney Smith made one three.

Other high scorers for the Hornets include: J’Allen Barrino (18 points), Delong (16 points) and Phillips (9 points).

The Hornets will resume action Friday at Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
