Carrollton places third, Rinkes finishes fifth at state golf tournament

The Carrollton Warriors boys golf team finished third at the Division II boys state golf tournament for the second year in a row. The Warriors shot second a round score of 332 Saturday morning, finishing with an overall score of 653.

They were led by Jaxon Rinkes who finished fifth as an individual with a low overall score of 155 – the senior recorded an 80 today.

There were 71 total golfers and 12 teams in the field for the Division II state tournament.

Carrollton’s leading golfer shot four-over-par on the front nine. On the back nine, he shot +5 with an eagle on the 12th hole – he finished with a three on the par five.

Colton Moore shot an overall score of 160 for Carrollton, recording a second round score of 84 and finishing 14th in the state.

Moore played a clean front nine, shooting +3. On the back, he finished +10.

John Birong placed 21st overall with a score of 165 – he finished with an 81 on day two.

On the front nine Saturday, Birong shot +4. On the back nine, he shot +6.

Carrollton’s Cayden Rininger finished the tournament tied for 34th. On the front nine, he shot +8, going even on the third and fourth holes. His overall score was 173.

Micah Barkan tied for 42nd as an individual. His overall score for both days was 178. He finished with an 87 Saturday. He birdied the 16th hole (par 4).
