A male suspect is dead following a domestic dispute on Wednesday morning in the village of Mineral City.

According Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell, a woman called dispatch just before 9:30 a.m. to report a man at her home, who she had a protection order against. She told dispatch that she was hiding inside her home for safety.

Deputies responded to the residence and located the man, who advised deputies on scene he had a weapon.

During the course of the conversation with him, the man attempted to enter the home. He refused to obey commands to stop, forcing deputies to fire a less-lethal round at the suspect. The man then turned around, drew a firearm and fired the gun.

Deputies returned fire and stopped the threat. The man was struck by the returned gunfire and an Ambulance from the Mineral City FD was immediately called into the scene. The man died from the injuries he received.
