New details released in Canton homicide; suspect attempted to shoot victim’s spouse

More details have been released regarding a homicide that occurred in Canton on Wednesday morning on Ellis Ave N.E.

In the original details provided to JMN, Ryan Harmer, 22, of Canton allegedly shot and killed 46-year-old Michael McCray inside the victim’s home in the 2800 block of Ellis Ave NE. McCray was shot multiple ties with a semi auto .9 MM gun.

In new details obtained from a Stark County Jail report, Harmer then fired a single-shot at the deceased victim’s wife before fleeing the home. The second victim was not hit by the gunfire and was able to call 911.

Harmer was arrested less than two-miles away at his home at 4230 Harmont Ave NE in Canton.

Harmer was charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Burglary, two counts Felonious Assault and Tampering with Evidence.

The shooting remains under investigation.
